East London CLT, 112 Cavell Street, Whitechapel, London E1 2JA.
Community Land Trusts are currently being used around the globe as an effective way to deliver low cost home ownership to families and local communities in perpetuity. In the UK few companies have taken up this challenge - until now.
The East London Community Land Trust is a not-for-profit community organisation that speciailises in providing CLT housing across east London. We were born out of community organising, and still stay true to those principles, having been formed out of a campaign led by London CITIZENS. ELCLT is, however, an independent organisation with its own membership, governance and Board of Trustees.
In our founding year, we made great progress in our work to establish the UK's first ever urban CLT on the former site of St. Clement's Hospital in Mile End, and for a CLT to be integrated into future plans for the Olympic Park. But we need to raise money if our efforts are going to be able to continue!
We want proud donors. We welcome the challenge of having to raise such a large amount of money from a wide array of sources. We see it as an exercise in the spirit of our overall endeavour – bringing people and organisations together and declaring with pride a founding stake in a collective movement that will forever endower posterity.
Every individual who donates £35 ($50) or more, and every organisation who donates £100 ($150) or more, will have their name inscribed on a brick on this website, and on the first home we build. Smaller donations are also welcome and are greatly needed. The cement mixers below pay testament to those who give whatever they can.
